While not all staff speak English, everyone is bend-over-backwards helpful – which is just as well, as it can take a while to get your bearings. Centre stage is the outdoor walkway Piment Street, lined with dozens of small shops and cafés. There are two hotel restaurants, a sleek Book & Café space, a crafts workshop area, open-air Japanese-style baths in the forests and – a scene-stealer for all children– a vast (and immaculately clean) swimming pool complex called 'il Mare' in a concrete sphere-like space, complete with inflatables, wave sessions, an outdoor heated bathing area and a colourful children’s water play space.
Life is resolutely seasonal at the hotel, with a string of impressive activities, mainly for children. During the winter months, there is a small snow-covered slope for children’s sledging with fires and marshmallow toasting nearby. The hotel group also operates its own children’s ski school on nearby slopes, offering good-quality private and group classes (ski season room rates also include free rental of ski clothing, accessories, boots and skis plus transfers). There are also countless summer activities, from horse riding, flower field picnics and picture storybook shows in the forest to paragliding and an aerial pathway among the treetops (there’s even a 'Night Academy of Bugs' for insect-loving children). Adults are also taken care of with wine-related activities – from wine tasting at the hotel’s on-site wine school to treatments at the small wine-themed spa.
